Dental Implants
At My Gentle Dentist, dental implants are one of the treatment options available for replacing missing teeth, teeth that need to be removed, or multiple teeth—including full-arch restorations. Dental implants are placed into the jawbone, where they act as a stable foundation to support replacement teeth and help maintain surrounding oral structures.
Implants are designed to restore function and stability, allowing replacement teeth to feel secure and natural. However, implant treatment is not suitable for everyone. Suitability and outcomes can vary based on factors such as bone quality, overall oral health, and individual healing response.
Your dentist will carefully assess your condition and discuss whether dental implants are appropriate for you, along with the potential risks, benefits, and alternative treatment options.

Frequently Asked Questions
Dental implants are titanium roots that are implanted into your jawbone beneath your gums. Once in place, they provide a solid foundation to have a crown placed on the implant. The replacement teeth will be made to match your natural teeth, which will your implants the appearance that they are your teeth. It would be very hard for anyone to ever notice your dental implants. Dental implants can also be used to hold a dental bridge or dentures in places. However, dental implants are not the right option for everyone.
My Gentle Dentist offers 3 main dental implant options:
Single and Multiple Dental ImplantsÂ
Single and multiple implants are applied in two parts. A small titanium implant is inserted into the jaw bone to replace the missing root. This implant will then fuse with the jawbone, providing strength and durability, becoming the self-supporting foundation for the newly created tooth. It normally takes 3-6 months for the procedure. A crown or denture is then made to fit over the top to create the look and function of a natural tooth/ teeth. You May be a Candidate for these types of implants if you are missing one or more teeth in between healthy natural teeth.
All on 4 or All on 6 Dental Implants
All on 4 or All on 6 dental implants are designed as an alternative option for full teeth dentures. A customized denture is made in a specialized laboratory which will secure them to four or six dental implants. These can be applied to the top or bottom jaw line according to your individual needs if you are missing most or all of your teeth, this might be an option for you. All on 4 or All on six dental implants are a permanent solution, meaning they are more functional and secure than regular removable dentures. They look and feel more realistic too.
Modern dental implants work due to a process called Osseointegration. Osseointegration is an amazing process by which normal healthy bones form a direct interface with a dental implant ensuring an extremely strong long-term connection. This then gives the perfect platform for replacement teeth, dentures or another prosthesis.
When it comes to teeth replacement, generally, there are three options:
- Removable dental appliance (complete denture or partial denture)
- Fixed dental bridge (cemented)
- Dental implant.
Dentures are the more affordable option for replacing teeth but are the least desirable because of the inconvenience of a removable appliance in the mouth. Furthermore, dentures can affect one’s taste and sensory experience with food. The main disadvantage to bridgework is the dependence on existing natural teeth for support. This involves cutting normal teeth without symptoms to use them as pillars (abutments).
Here are the top 10 benefits of dental implants over other solutions:Â
- The closest possible replacement to natural teeth
- Ensures replacement teeth are stable for eating and smiling with confidence
- Eliminate the pain of ill-fitting partial and full dentures
- Help to maintain the shape of your face
- Remove the need to grind down healthy teeth for a bridge
- Help to preserve the bone in the jaw
- Improve appearance, comfort, speech and self-esteem
- Make it easier to eat
- Convenient
- Protect your remaining natural teeth

By offering multiple options, My Gentle Dentist provides our patients with the opportunity to have individually personalised treatment specific to your needs. To find out which option is right for you we recommend coming in to see us. We will use our expertise and experience to consider the right fit for your needs. Your first assessment will consider everything from how many teeth you are missing to the high quality of your gums and jawbone, a design and treatment to get you smiling again.
Dental implants can range anywhere from $4,000 to $5,000 depending on a number of factors including your:
- Type of Dental coverage
- How many implants are needed
- Type of dental implant you choose, and
- Whether any bone graft is required for long term success of implants.
Dental implant treatment can take 3-6 months from start to end and follows a 3-step process:
- Your damage tooth is removed, and the implant is placed into the jaw before a screw is inserted to prevent debris from entering.
- Upon returning to your My Gentle Dentist, the implant is uncovered, and an extension called healing abutment is attached.
- Finally, a crown will be made to best suit your natural teeth, considering factors including size, shape and colour.
Once completed, the crown is attached to the implant post and you can enjoy your beautiful new smile!
Dental implant recovery depends on a number of factors, one of which includes the various procedures required to complete your treatment.
However, it is generally recognized that once an implant has been placed, maintaining diligent oral hygiene habits helps ensure proper integration with bone structure. Failure to floss and brush can contribute to failure of the treatment. Infection can occur if the implant and surrounding areas are not cleaned properly. You must see your dentist every 6 months for your regular check-up and clean following completion of Dental Implant Procedure. Smoking also is attributed to high failure rates and should be avoided following implant procedures. If provisional restorations were placed along with the implant(s), it will be important to clean them as you would your natural teeth to ensure the best possible healing and fusing.
After the initial surgical procedure, discomfort should be minimal.
Swelling of your gums and face may occur, as well as minor bleeding and bruising of the implant site. Prescription pain medications may be prescribed by your Dentist to relieve any pain or discomfort you feel after the procedure. For a few days after surgery, your diet should be restricted to soft foods. If stitches are present, they may need to be removed by your Dentist; however, self-dissolving stitches that do not require removal are typically used. My Gentle Dentist will advise you of any specific care that needs to be taken for stitches if necessary. Healing from the surgical procedure to place the implant(s) takes up to 3-6 months, while the fitting and seating of the crown(s) can take up to 1 month. My Gentle Dentist will provide all necessary information specific to your situation well in advance.
Again, this timeframe depends on individual cases and treatments. Follow-up appointments with your treatment coordinators are essential for monitoring your progress. If cared for properly, it can remain in place for a very long time.
